Weather
cancellations: Canceling worship on
either Sunday or Wednesday due to inclement weather is something we take
seriously and do not do easily. Christians
need weekly worship to gather together to hear God's word. When the weather conditions lead us to consider cancellation,
council presidents and Pastor will consult and try to make a timely decision so
that we can inform the congregations before people
start out on the road. Factors included are forecasts, road
conditions, temperatures and wind strength. If a decision is made to cancel, we will make
use of the church councils' phone lists. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.
The midweek services will be cancelled
if that school is closed.
Christians don't take a Sunday off just because weather cancels worship! What can you do in such circumstances? Read your Bible, read the lessons for the day (listed on pages 13-31 of The Lutheran Book of
Worship & the Celebrate, or click the button labeled ‘Lessons’ on this website), the lessons from the Daily Lectionary
(LBW pages 178-192), or other Bible passages of your choice. If you use a daily
devotional booklet, follow that. Use the LBW. PRAY/READ the order for that time of day
(Matins-p. 131, Vespers-p. 142, Compline-p. 154) or the Responsive Prayer
services on pages 161-164. Read or SING one or more hymns.
PRAY: Speak to God from
your heart and mind and your words. Use
the words of a great writer of the church by using prayers in the LBW (pages 42-53).
MEDITATE: on
God's goodness and love in Jesus Christ and what the Holy Spirit is guiding you
to say, do, and be. Plan to attend the Wednesday service if you can't worship on Sunday. (To purchase your own Lutheran Book of
Worship, ask Pastor Paul.)
When worship is canceled or you miss a Sunday, your offerings are still vital! Please be sure to "make up" for any missed Sundays, and fulfill your pledge. The church's expenses continue even when we aren't at worship.
